Two alleged car thieves were arrested when the Kagiso Police conducted routine patrols on Tuesday 2 December.
Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson at the Kagiso Police Station said they received information about a Volkswagen Polo that had been stolen earlier in Mondeor in Johannesburg South. The vehicle was found parked at a house in Kagiso Extension 11.
“The police followed the information and as they approached the given address three suspects who were busy inside the Polo noticed them and fled the scene on foot,” Sibiya said.
“The police gave chase and managed to apprehend two of the suspects, but one managed to get away.”
As the police were conducting their investigation they found a variety of car parts inside the Polo. They also recovered another Polo parked in the same yard.
“Investigations showed it had been stolen in Lenasia a few days before. Both cars’ registration plates had been removed and replaced with false number plates,” said Sibiya.
The arrested suspects are being detained in the Kagiso Police Station holding cells where two case dockets of possession of stolen motor vehicles were opened.
Sibiya said the suspects will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon and the search for the third suspect is continuing.
