
An alleged chicken thief lodged a complaint at the Hekpoort police station after an accomplice refused to give him his share of the loot.
Gloria Maswanganye, a police spokesperson at the station said about 54 chickens, with an estimated value of R3 348, was allegedly stolen from the Nu-Laid Chicken farm.
She said he told police that they sold eight of the chickens to a woman at another farm.
After a police investigation was launched the police found the eight chickens slaughtered.
“The woman admitted that she bought the chickens from the men,” said Maswanganye.
Both the complainant and his friend were arrested for stock theft while the purchaser was arrested for possession of stolen property.
All three made a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.
