Truth behind sex workers suicide revealed

Before the sex worker took her own life, she cried out for help.

The truth about the ‘lady of the night’ who committed suicide by hanging herself while in police custody last year was revealed by an informer of the news.

The 24-year old accused was due to appear in court on charges of loitering, possession and use of drugs but was instead found dead on 13 October 2014 in the police’s cells.

Nikita as she was known, walked a close path with Mr Luckycharm who tried to help her in the last hours of her life.

She was taken into custody for questioning, and was due to appear in court the coming Monday, but sadly took her life with a pair of shoe laces.

Mr Luckycharm believes the police played a part in the death of the helpless sex worker as one can not help but wonder how she gained access to the shoelaces.

“I knew her well, as I worked with her for the past six years. I am a friend to them.”

He claims that Nikita talked about getting clean and turning her life around before her passing, but she didn’t possess the inner strength to break her horrible heroin habit.

When Nikita was in police custody she contacted an older man who she was involved with to bail her out since her pimp had abandoned her.

She told Mr Luckycharm that the ‘sugar daddy’ simply told her to ‘go rot in hell’.

“No one was there for her when she needed them most. She was simply a sex object. Her bail was R1 000 compared to her life lost.”

He believes the police is not doing enough to help these girls as there is no support or counseling available to assist the girls when they are locked up for days on end without a fix or any medical assistance for the deadly withdrawal symptoms.

“How can these girls escape the streets if there is no counseling or social workers available to refer willing sex workers to rehab facilities for detox and recovery?”
