Suspected robbers leave getaway car and firearm behind

One suspect managed to get away while another was apprehended in a strange cat and mouse game with the police.

One suspect has been caught while another fled in a taxi after an alleged robbery at gunpoint yesterday afternoon.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) members from Sector 3 were called after one suspect had fled into the ditch behind the Krugersdorp Taxi Rank following the alleged robbery.

Police officials and the CPF searched the area for the suspects.

Bystanders told the news they believe the suspects came to the taxi rank by car. They then decided to split up with one taking the high road and fleeing into the nearby ditch and the other suspect getting into a taxi.

However, police managed to arrest the suspect who tried to run away. While arresting him, his cellphone rang. He was instructed to answer the call when he indicated that his partner in crime was on the line.

His partner told him that he was waiting for him at the Kagiso taxi rank.

The second suspect is still at large.

The news has reason to believe that there was a firearm in the vehicle the suspects left behind, which is why detectives were called to the scene to investigate.

The vehicle was cordoned off by police tape.

The news is awaiting official police comment.
