A 42-year-old woman was arrested for resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson at the Kagiso Police Station said they received a complaint of child abuse last on Sunday, 1 February, and immediately went to the scene.
Upon arrival they found the complainant who showed them the shack on the same property where the alleged abuse took place.
“When the police knocked on the door, the suspect opened and allegedly told the police that she was not interested in knowing them,” said Sibiya.
“She then refused to show the child to the police which resulted in an argument between her and the police.”
While this was taking place the complainant brought the 7-year-old child and showed her to the police.
“The police noticed that the child sustained an open wound to the left ear as well as a swollen right eye. The suspect allegedly stabbed and punched the child,” Sibiya explained.
“When told that she was under arrest, the suspect allegedly started attacking and kicking the police officer. She further manhandled and tore the officer’s uniform shirt.”
The suspect was arrested and detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened.
She already made her first brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court last week.
