Krugersdorper wins first 702 challenge
Krugersdorp resident proves to be smartest of them all at 702's Brain Quiz challenge.
A general knowledge quiz was no obstacle for a local Krugersdorp resident after she won the first quarterfinals of the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 challenge.
With a score of 21 out of 25, Lauren Calvert took top honours at the first quarterfinals hosted at Clearwater Mall on 7 February.
She walked away with a R5 000 cash price after beating the week’s ‘Top Brains’.
The fun-filled event gave spectators and contestants the opportunity to meet and greet their favourite 702 radio presenters after enjoying the exciting show.
702’s traffic presenter Aki Anastasiou was the emcee of the day and reeled in the contestants for the wildcard round which determined the sixth contestant of the first quarterfinals.
Contestants’ nerves were on edge as Redi Tlhabi and John Robbie served as the overall judges.
The contestants were given 90 seconds to answer a train of 25 questions from quiz master Bruce Whitfield of 702’s the Money Show.
“The annual competition gives those with a brilliant bank of general knowledge a chance to cash in and show off, both on-air and in front of a live audience at the weekly mall activations,” says Romaana Naidoo, PR writer for Primedia Broadcasting Joburg.
On air, the game is played each morning on John Robbie’s breakfast show where two contestants go head-to-head to answer the most correct number of general knowledge questions in 60 seconds.
The winner then wins a cash prize and will then progress to the following round, and so the game continues throughout the day. The Brain of the Day then wins a cash price and some Dis-Chem goodies in a bonus round.
The five ‘Brains of the Day’ winners then meet at a local shopping center on a Saturday, joined by a Wildcard contestant, who then plays the final round.
“Followers of the Dis-Chem Brain of 702 are encouraged to get to the mall activations to experience the nerve-wracking excitement of the live quiz shows ably hosted and judged by 702 presenters, and possibly walk away with the spoils.”
