Dagga suspect convicted

A man has received a fitting sentence for being in the possession of a small amount of dagga.

Two months after being arrested in Tarlton for being in possession of 8,6 grams of dagga a 37-year-old man was convicted in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

Lucky Matome, a police spokesperson said the sentence that was imposed on Shimane Frank Phiti was a R3 000 fine or three months imprisonment which was wholly suspended for five years on the condition that the accused is not found guilty of possession of drugs in contravention as set out in section 4(b) Act 140 of 1992.

Lieutenant Colonel AM Molefi, Station Commander for the Tarlton Police Station applauded the detectives, the judiciary and the National Prosecuting Authority for an outstanding job.

“They sent a clear message to the community that crime does not pay and will never pay.”
