Refusing gesture lead to shooting

The suspect asked the complainant to go outside with him, but when he refused, he drew his firearm.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 17 February, at Tshepisong for allegedly shooting at another person.

Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson said it is alleged that the complainant and his friend were at a local tavern in Tshepisong when the suspect entered.

He then asked the complainant to go with him outside so that they could talk, but he refused.

“The suspect became angry and drew a firearm, he pointed it to the direction of the complainant. The suspect fired two shots but he missed,” Sibiya said.

“The suspect left the tavern thereafter and the complainant later reported the matter to the police.”

Sibiya said the police started searching for the armed suspect who had since gone into hiding. Following a tip-off from community members police were able to arrest him, but the firearm used when committing the crime has not yet been recovered.

The suspect has already made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder.
