The brand-new equestrian team from Monument Primary is ready for horse riding action.
The News met with the team and their proud mothers one Friday afternoon to talk about their being the school’s first competing team.
The school principal Mark Moore has decided not only to support the girls by sponsoring them but also to create awareness and welcoming the new sport.
The group of girls at first rode at different stables but they have joined forces to compete as an united team.
The team started with only two girls but has grown to seven. They have started competing at a beginner level in February at the Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm in Krugersdorp.
The team members are Alara and Ashley Eich, Kathleen Caroto, Taryn Campbell, Jorden and Chardè Smith and Jocelyn Hartslief.
“All the girls are so excited,” said one of the moms standing by while they put on their new uniforms.
The Monument Primary equestrian team plans to jump to new heights in this sport.
