Men jailed for stealing copper cables

Police officers searched a van which had a loaded bag filled with copper cables.

Two Zimbabweans nationals, Ambicious Shumba and Obvious Sesiba were found guilty in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court for being in the possession of copper cables.

Constable Duiker and Constable Gwala arrested the suspects in October last year on the R560 Hekpoort Road, while they were busy with their routine stop and search operations.

Constable Gloria Maswanganye said they spotted a Mercedes Benz panel van which they then stopped and searched it where after they found copper cables inside a large bag. The police arrested the two men.

She said they were found guilty of being in the possession of copper cables and was handed down a 12 months imprisonment sentence.

Captain Mosotho Phaahla, the Station Commander of Hekpoort Police Station was satisfied by the work of the police officers and said successful convictions is a great way of motivating officers to continue their hard week in protecting the community.
