Family pandemonium leads to arson

Damage to the value of around R10 000 was caused to a home.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 8 March in Zulujump, Kagiso for setting a home on fire after a misunderstanding with family members.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson said police were alerted of the complaint while they were patrolling the area.

Police responded and proceeded to the scene where upon arrival they found the suspect’s sister who then related the complaint to the police.

“She informed the police that it was her brother who burnt their home down,” said Sibiya.

Sibiya said the sister then led the police throughout the house showing them all the damage.

“While the police were inspecting the damages, the suspect confronted them to say he was the one who set the house on fire.”

He was arrested immediately on the scene and the estimated damage caused by the fire is around R10 000.

The suspect has been detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of arson was opened. He will appear briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
