Don’t believe everything you read on social media as false information spreads through facebook quicker that the Cape inferno.
Social media users shared what proved to be false information about an alleged abduction or kidnapping of a child at President Hyper. “It is totally untrue,” Basil Synodinos, President Hyper CEO confirmed.
Synodinos and his team decided to address the issue by means of a press release on facebook on 17 March.
Press release as submitted by President Hyper:
Dear concerned parents and loyal customers.
We write this press release in the interests of the truth and your peace of mind.
Please note that all the rumours regarding an attempted abduction/Kidnapping, at our Vaal store, are untrue and irresponsible.
Also please note that these rumours relate to our Vanderbijlpark branch only and not our Krugersdorp branch.
The verifiable facts are as follows:
More than six weeks ago, a male customer, innocently and playfully, picked up another customer’s child; and handed the child back to the mother within a few moments.
The mother was rightfully upset, as any mother would be. We agree that our children are sacred, and that no one has the right to touch them without our consent.
The facts of this incident were captured on CCTV.
Unfortunately, this innocent incident has now become a story, that is far from the truth.
Over the past weeks, through social media, people have added on their extra tail to the story, making it sensational, and not in the interests of the public.
President Hyper takes the security, welfare and safety of its customers and staff very seriously.
We employ an extraordinary amount of security staff on our premises and have state of the art security equipment in place.
We trust the above facts will put your minds at rest.
Synodinos reiterated that the recent social media reports were untrue, “full stop”. He reassured the community and loyal costumers that their premises is safe.
He sees it as unfortunate that some people believe everything they read on social media and share such unverified information with friends and family.
“Thank you to the Krugersdorp and West Rand community for their fantastic and unwavering loyalty, and for trusting in the President Hyper brand”.
The News got word straight from the horse’s mouth that the community can look forward to some exciting developments in the near future.
