Alleged cellphone thief caught

Suspected thief arrested for trying to sell a phone that he stole.

Magaliesburg police arrested a 28-year-old man for housebreaking and theft after he was found to be in possession of a cellphone taken at the crime scene.

Constable Rebecca Phithi, a police spokesperson said the housebreaking took place at the Ga Mohale location on Saturday 21 March.

“According to the the complainant, the suspect forced the window open and gained entry where after he took the cellphone.”

She said the complainant then got a tip-off about someone selling a cellphone.

“She investigated further and found the cellphone that is on sale is actually hers. After phoning the police the cellphone was positively identified as her property and the suspect was arrested.”

The suspect is due to appear in the Magaliesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
