Suspected reckless and negligent driver arrested

The driver was driving at a high speed in a 60 kilometer per hour zone.

The Magaliesburg Police arrested a 33-year-old man for driving at a high speed in a 60 kilometres per hour zone in the central business district.

Constable Rebecca Phiti, a spokesperson said police ascertained that he was speeding for no apparent reason but was able to discover that he was driving under the influence.

“The community must start to realise the police won’t allow people to do as they please on the roads.”

The suspect will make a brief appearance in court soon.

In a seperate incident the Hekpoort Police arrested a 24-year-old man for drunken driving on the R563 Hekpoort Road.

Police were busy patrolling the area when they came across a silver Honda with two men inside. The driver was busy consuming beer.

Constable Gloria Maswanganye, a police spokesperson said police took the driver to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital for a blood test which was positive for alcohol.

“He was arrested and had already appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court, but the case was postponed pending a police investigation.”
