Teenager attacks man with axe

The suspects demanded R5 000 as the complainant was allegedly having an affair with the wife of one of the suspect's.

A teenager was arrested after he and an accomplice allegedly attacked and robbed a man – using an axe.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson said the man alleged that he and his neighbour were busy talking when suddenly two unknown men came running towards them.

Sibiya said one of the suspects was in possession of an axe.

“He suddenly attacked and struck the man to the back of his head and waist. The suspects then demanded R5 000 from the complainant because he was apparently having an affair with the wife of one of the suspect’s.”

When the complainant could not pay that kind of money, the suspects allegedly threatened to burn his shack down with him inside.

“The complainant then paid R1 500 to the suspects who left thereafter.”

He sustained an open wound to his waist and was later taken to the local hospital for treatment. The matter was reported to the police.

A case docket of robbery and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm was registered at the Kagiso police station.

Sibiya said one of the suspects was later arrested but the second suspect is still at large.

“The arrested minor was transferred to the Bosasa Youth Rehabilitation Centre.”
