Jaco and his family were on their way to a sporting event at Laerskool Protearif, as Jaco and his younger brother Gerrie are pupils of the school, when the accident happened.

Jaco, his brother, father Gerhard and mother Rina were involved in the accident after which two helicopters had to be dispatched. It is alleged that another vehicle swerved in front of the Jordaan’s, causing Gerhard to swerve as well and lose control of the vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle allegedly sped away. Information on the Facebook page Krugersdorp Network Community indicates that Jaco was in the operating theater when he died.

Group member Poppie Greyling posted a day before that Jaco was responding well to treatment and was even able to show that he was doing fine by way of showing his thumbs.

“Jaco is off the machines (ventilator) and is awake,” she posted.

Ansie Fouche Engelbrecht posted that she had seen a photo where he was able to play video games and said that she was very grateful that he is doing so well.

But when Zelda Van Aswegen Ballelda posted that he had passed, tributes started pouring in.
