Children egged on to hunt

Over 900 children watched with mouths watering as thousands of Easter eggs were scattered across a school field.

Children from all over Krugersdorp raced to Monument Primary in search of chocolate treasures, the Easter bunny and his friends.

Toddlers and tweens arrived at the school grounds and were greeted by various cartoon characters like Spongebob Squarepants, Barney, Pink Panther, the penguins of Madagascar and of course the Easter bunny.

The characters along with the ‘green army’ of the Real Life Church entertained the anxious children with fun and games as they waited for the 20 000 chocolate Easter eggs the church collected.

In 2013 the church surprised children for the first time, arranging a helicopter to drop a couple thousand chocolate eggs from the sky. The second time the church decided to get a fire truck and Disney characters too. This year, what could possibly be more egg-citing?

Three microlight aircrafts showcased an air show while children anticipated the start of the race to gather as many Easter eggs as they possibly can.

Teasing the crowd the plane dropped a handful of eggs over the field after every turn.

The green army then opened bags full of Easter eggs and scattered them all over the field as children watch with mouths watering.

Suddenly a voice over the microphone announced the countdown and within seconds over 900 children charged in search of eggs.

Pastor Noel Wood and his wife Zelda thank everyone who helped make this day egg-ceptional.

“Thank you to every single person who donated eggs, you know who you are. And a special thank you to all the members of the ‘green army’ who volunteered to help make the day special for the children.”

For now the church is going to take it easy and work on their bigger and better surprise for the next Easter bash.

“It feels better to give, than receive,” concluded Zelda egg-haustedly.
