Shot while conducting work

A man was shot in the leg by men who came armed with a knife, sjambok, traditional stick and a firearm.

The Kagiso Police arrested a 28-year-old suspect for alleged attempted murder in Rietvallei, Kagiso.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson at the Kagiso Police Station said the complainant was allegedly performing some work with some of his colleagues when he noticed a white bakkie with four occupants approaching them.

Sibiya said the suspects’ bakkie allegedly passed and later stopped a few metres away. Three suspects then got out of the vehicle and demanded to see the supervisor of the construction workers.

“When the complainant approached them, he was insulted. The suspects were all armed with a knife, a sjambok, a traditional stick and a firearm respectively,” Sibiya said.

“Suddenly the suspect armed with a firearm fired a shot at the complainant. The complainant fled the scene but sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The suspects then fled the scene in the bakkie.”

Sibiya said the complainant was taken to hospital and the matter was reported to the police.

The arrested suspect is due to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon. The police are still searching for three more suspects.
