Grandfather burns himself and grandson alive

The police were notified and they searched for the car. They found it, but they were too late as the car already was on fire.

The community of Azaadville is in shock and horrified following the tragic news that a grandfather set himself and his grandchild, 4, alight in a car on Wednesday, 8 April, afternoon.

Roxy de Villiers from the Randfontein Herald reports that Gauteng police confirmed that the grandfather burned himself and the 4-year-old alive. The car was found on Shastri Street in Azaadville.

According to Kay Makhubele, provincial police spokesperson, “The boy’s father went to work with his wife this morning. He received a call from his father-in-law who said he had the boy and was going to kill his grandson by setting alight a car with the boy inside.

“The police were notified and they searched for the car. They found it in Azaadville, but they were too late as the car already was on fire.”

According to ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing “Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for them. The man and child were declared dead. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown however authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
