Man shot in driveway on the road to recovery

Without any words being exchanged, a man from Silverfields was shot three times in his driveway.

The 26-year-old man who was shot in his driveway in an alleged hijacking incident in Garrick Street, is in a stable condition.

Samantha Lemmer, wife of Manie says he underwent a four-hour operation at the Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg to repair the damage done after he was shot twice on Friday 10 April in the upper body and once in the foot.

She said her husband arrived home after 6pm and as he was on his way to open the gate, a white Chevrolet utility bakkie stopped behind his vehicle after which three men between the ages of 20 and 25 got out from the vehicle.

“He then raised his hands in surrender when he noticed that one of the guys had a gun pointed at him.”

With no words or arguments they opened fire, shooting him in the stomach. This caused him to drop to his knees, where after he then rolled towards his car for cover.

“But they continued shooting, hitting him in the foot and in the lower back.”

Lemmer said the culprits then left him for dead.

They took his licensed 9mm hand weapon, his cellphone and his Opel Astra sports car. The car was later retrieved by the Community Police Forum (CPF) where it was left abandoned in Kagiso.

This is the second crime related incident in less than a month. On 16 March Thomas Cope, 67, was killed with a crowbar when seven men entered his home in Chelsea Avenue, a mere kilometre from where the latest incident has taken place.
