Car theft suspect apprehended

Two men confronted the complainant and pointed a firearm in his direction, demanding the car keys.

Police arrested a suspect on Monday 13 April for stealing a company car.

Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson said it is alleged that the complainant was at one of the shops in Rietvallei to deliver an order.

As he left the shop and walked towards his vehicle two unknown men suddenly appeared and confronted him.

“One of the suspects was armed with a firearm and he pointed it at the complainant before demanding the car keys,” Sibiya said.

The suspects sped off towards Kagiso Central in the complainant’s silver grey Volkswagen Polo.

“Police started searching for the two suspects in and around Kagiso. An hour later one of the suspects was cornered and arrested.”

The firearm used in the hijacking incident was not recovered during the initial arrest and the second suspect is still at large. The arrested suspect is due to appear briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon, facing a charge of car theft.
