
Hekpoort police arrested a 38-year-old suspect for cable theft on Monday, 20 April.
Constable Gloria Maswanganye, a police spokesperson said the police received a tip-off from the community that two men are cutting cable at Hartbeesfontein Road in Hekpoort and immediately proceeded to the scene.
“When the suspects saw the police, they ran away, but the police gave chase and apprehended one suspect,” Maswanganye said.
The police officers then took the suspect back to the scene where they confiscated a copper cable of about 40 metres and one Acer laptop.
“The suspect did not even know how to open it,” said Maswanganye.
A case was opened against the suspect for being in the possession of suspected stolen property.
He made a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court which was postponed for further investigation.
