Couple tied up, perpetrator shot

Four suspects entered the home of a married couple, tied them up, before fleeing with their household goods and a vehicle.

A robber was shot from a police helicopter in Bosmont, Randburg when a shootout ensued between the police following a house robbery in Azaadville last week.

Major Mack Mngomezulu, a police spokesperson said a married couple was bound by four suspects who entered their home just after 7am.

“They ransacked the house and took household items as well as their silver Mercedes Benz before fleeing the scene.”

Mngomezulu said the vehicle had a tracking device installed which made it possible for the police to track them down.

“A shootout erupted and one of the suspects was shot in the lower limbs and was taken to a nearby hospital under heavy police guard.”

He said the police are still looking for the other three suspects and that Kagiso police station’s detectives are investigating a house robbery.

He was unable to say if the suspects could be linked to the spate of robberies which have taken place on the West Rand lately.
