Suspects run into the arms of the law

In an attempt to escape again, two suspects ran straight in the arms of the law.

Curious motorists stopped on Johan Jonker Drive to get a glimpse of two alleged suspects being arrested at Coronation Dam.

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) members of Sector 4 received a call out after a break-in at a house in Monument at 13.30pm on the afternoon of 28 April.

Arriving at the premises, Sector 4 patrollers met up with two alleged suspects.

The members instructed the alleged suspects to surrender, but they fled the premises by foot.

Patrollers gave chase and followed the alleged suspects down the streets of Monument past Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital.

Patrollers were dispatched to various points to block off the suspects.

The suspects failed to cross over the palisades at the hospital and changed direction, heading towards Johan Jonker Drive which passes past Coronation Dam.

EPR, Thompsons Security and CPF members gave chase and managed to corner the suspects in the reeds at the dam.

Because of a great team effort by the CPF, EPR, Thompson Security, Krugersdorp police and local residents, the suspects were surrounded.

It is believed that one of the boats that were on the dam was used by a CPF member who drove into the reeds where they suspected the burglars were hiding.

As the boat closed in on the suspects they attempted yet another escape but ended up running straight into the arms of CPF, EPR, Thompson Security and local residents who waited for them on the other side of the reeds.

The alleged suspects were apprehended and transported to the crime scene by Thompsons Security who handed them over to the police.
