Police were called to a school in Krugersdorp after a shocking discovery was made on 7 May.
On arrival at the school, Krugersdorp police met up with the principal who informed them about the discovery of a firearm on the school grounds.
The firearm was recovered in one of the drainage systems at Town View High School.
The News contacted the Krugersdorp police spokesperson to confirm the incident.
“On further investigation the police received information about the owner of the firearm and that the gun was used to rob a learner at gunpoint the previous day. The police arrested three learners for armed robbery and confiscated the firearm. The firearm belongs to a parent of one of the learners,” Constable Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp police commented.
The suspects are between 16 and 17 years of age.
The News contacted both the Department of Education and Town View for comment.
The school’s receptionist could not help the News with a spokesperson present at the school and rudely asked what the News wanted before ending the call.
Again the News phoned the school who could not transfer the journalist to the right person to talk to and eventually responded by saying that as a school they are not allowed to comment on the incident before abruptly ending the call once again.
The News is awaiting comment from the Department of Education.
