Cellphone thief caught
The suspect struck the complainant twice on the head with a beer bottle before fleeing the scene.
A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Kagiso police for breaking into a shack and stealing a cellphone.
Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya, a police spokesperson, said the suspect was sleeping when the suspect knocked on his door.
“When he opened up the door the suspect struck him twice on the head with a beer bottle which knocked him unconscious and he fell to the ground.”

Sibiya said the suspect thereafter took his cellphone and fled on foot.
“The neighbour heard a strange noise and investigated. He found the complainant lying on the floor and bleeding from open cuts that he sustained.”

An ambulance was called and the complainant was then taken to the hospital.
“The suspect has been in hiding ever since but could not hide anymore when the police cornered him last Friday.”
He has already made a brief appearance in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court for robbery and assault.
