[PHOTOS] Extreme makeover on Nurses Day

International Nurses Day was widely celebrated in Krugersdorp with the Netcare group at the forefront.

Passing through the entrance of a beautifully made up hall, nurses from Netcare 911 as well as Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital were welcomed to the celebrations of International Nurse’s Day yesterday, 12 May.

Ladders, brooms, hardhats and caution tape displayed at the entrance, which was decorated as a construction site, was part of this year’s theme; Extreme Makeover.

International Nurses Day (IND) is celebrated around the world on 12 May each year to mark the contributions nurses make to society.

A emotional prayer opening kicked off the ceremony followed by an unexpected and uplifting speech by Dr Herman Roodt who received a standing ovation as he saluted the nurses who make such a difference in the industry.

“Nurses are the backbones of the hospital and although times have changed, there is one thing that has not changed and it is the standards of nursing in South Africa,” Herman said.

The different departments of the hospital’s nurses were challenged to do a small presentation about their Extreme Makeovers.

The spirits between the nurses were high as they cheered each other on.

Some departments received a ‘facelift’ and was renovated, where other departments ‘facelifted’ the attitude of their staff by motivating and letting them understand what it feels like to be patient.

Hilarious before and after photos were shown during the presentation and well wishes for a bigger and brighter future were chanted by the nurses.

Other departments boasted with the newest technology setting the hospital far before their competitors.

The presentation came to an end where the last department inspired the rest to ‘shine’ as they care for each other and their patients.

Nurses Day would just not be complete without some entertainment by the staff and delicious treats.

It is obvious that after this ‘Extreme Makeover’ the community can look forward to excellent service and bright smiles from the nurses of Netcare 911 and Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital.
