A tip-off by the community led members of the Sector 3 and 4 Community Policing Forums (CPF) along with police to a parking lot opposite Westcol College in the CBD.
The area where the college students park their vehicles quickly became deserted after police and the CPF had arrived. It is believed that in their break times students abuse drugs in the parking lot.
Beforehand members of the police had given an informative presentation about drugs and what to look for to the stakeholders who joined in the operation on the day. As drug users and dealers get smarter every day, police advised everyone to search a suspect thoroughly and not to dismiss the obvious places as they have found suspects hiding drugs in their shoes, between their fingers and even in their ears.
Police and CPF members quickly set their sights on other issues and searched a taxi parked opposite the parking lot. The taxi driver is suspected of selling drugs and alcohol to the students from his taxi.
Every inch of the taxi along with its passengers were searched for drugs.
Alcohol was found in their possession and was disposed of by the CPF after which the driver with his passengers returned to the taxi.
Police also continued to search suspicious occupants of vehicles seen lurking around the parking lot.
This is just another example of how the CPF and a handful of police officers take hands to combat crime in the community.
