Deceased shelter dweller’s family found

Family from Pretoria laid Johan Adolf Mostert to rest who passed away on a sidewalk in the CBD.

The family of the elderly man who had collapsed in the CBD and passed away finally found some closure.

The Tower of Life shelter in the CBD where Johan Adolf Mostert spent a few nights, knew very little about him, but wanted to put him to rest and was searching for any relatives to attend the funeral.

Following the articles the News’ published about Mostert’s passing, his brother came forward and positively identified him at the shelter.

His brother and Mostert’s son met up with the personnel of the shelter last week after not seeing him for many years.

They claimed he simply had disappeared without a trace.

A woman who works as a tracer also contacted the shelter after reading the article and provided it with information about Mostert’s past, including previous work and residence.

Both the brother and son live in Pretoria and was shocked to find out he was living in a shelter in Krugersdorp.

Mostert was a car guard in the CBD close to where he passed away on 5 May and slept at the shelter at night.

The family did not say why Mostert estranged himself from them but did describe him as a difficult man.

Employees of the shelter confirmed that although Mostert was a difficult man at times, he was a very quiet person who only spoke up when he had things on his mind.

Mostert was laid to rest during a private ceremony by the family.
