From being an illegal dumping site to proof that hard work does in fact pay off.

Boltonia Park has some humble beginnings.

From being an illegal dumping site only a mere two years ago, the park today is proof that hard work does in fact pay off – one bit at a time.

When local resident Lebo Motswere came up with the idea to use his state of affairs to make a change to his community, he really meant business.

Lebo, who was at the time unemployed told the News team that he did not want to sit at home and wait for something, instead he decided to make better use of his time by realising a dream: how do I keep children, among other, off the streets, doing drugs and other crimes?

He and several other volunteers got together with the limited resources they had where they had spent week after week trying to rid the park of weed and rubbish that have been dumped there over the past couple of years.

The Krugersdorp community including current Mr South Africa Armand du Plessis opened their hearts towards the project and donated tyres, plants, trees, paint and flowers.

During a recent visit to the park the News team stood in awe to see that Mogale City Local Municipality also came on-board. They provided several playground equipment such as a merry-go-round, slide, see-saw and is in the process of completing the swings installations.

“God is listening!” Lebo said as we strolled through the park to look at all the newly installed equipment.

The municipality also placed tables, benches and new braai-stands to give the park that extra sensation.

Lebo laughs when he told the News that the paint was not even completely dry when the children, all excitedly, got onto the different equipment.

“Seeing children play, laugh and have fun makes all of the hard work worth the sweat and effort we put into creating it.

“My dream is now to see the same happening to all the parks in Krugersdorp. I hope to see it being restored to its former glory, the way it used to be.”

He also made it clear that vandals can come, but it won’t dampen his spirit and passion he has for the park.

“If I was doing this for the money, I would not have been this passionate about seeing children being just that. My wish would be to see the whole community taking hands to keep the parks in a condition for everyone to enjoy.”
