When is a sign illegal?
Make sure you use the right avenues when advertising in outdoor municipal spaces.
We see hundreds of advertisements across Krugersdorp. But are they all legal?
A concerned reader approached the News about possible illegal advertising in the Krugersdorp area.
Outdoor advertising in Krugersdorp is governed by by-laws set out by Mogale City Local Municipality.
According to Sydney Mangena, Mogale City’s Outdoor Marketing and Advertising specialist, “If an advertisement is put up next to a public road without the approval from the municipality, it is illegal.
“There are many factors to be considered before an advertisement is approved.”
Many companies that use outdoor advertising in Krugersdorp, rent space on different boards from different companies.
One should ensure the correct procedures are followed to legalise your advertisement.
Potential advertisers also should take note it is prohibited to post signs that swing and are not rigidly and permanently fixed.
Any sign that could obscure a road traffic sign, is also not allowed.
