The fish are alright
Monument Dam's fish recently acted strangely but experts say it is because of natural causes.
After many watched and worried about the well-being of the strange behaving carp fish in Monument Dam at Key West Shopping Centre, experts are now investigating the matter and found it is not chemical related.

Concerned fisherman alerted Amanda de Lange, a Freedom Front Plus councillor for Mogale City Municipality, of a school of fish struggling to breath and floating on the surface of the dam.
Tests on the water and fish show that recent cold weather spells, followed by warmer weather, caused diminishing oxygen levels in the dam.
Environmental experts are currently investigating the situation.
“We are relieved that the cause of the problem is not chemical pollution. We are awaiting pathological test results from Onderstepoort and we are also impressed by Mogale City’s Department of Environmental Affairs swift action in this regard,” De Lange said.
Arrangements have been made to temporary move the fish to private dams in the area, where the fish will be monitored until the ecological balance of the dam is restored.
