Lynn Pannall, DA ward councillor for Noordheuwel expressed her concern regarding the parastatal that neglects its obligation towards the community in which it’s facility is situated.
Pannall made it clear that the Telkom Technical Depot in Ward 21, at the corner of Nupen Road and Lindhout Street in Noordheuwel, looks embarrassingly dirty.

“The hilly terrain of Noordheuwel is perfect for the height required for such an installation. However, the beautifully trimmed residential gardens and exquisite natural beauty of the ridge are spoiled by the unsightly littered sidewalks around the Telkom facility,” Pannall said.

The News approached Telkom for comment, but by the time of going to print, they had failed to respond.
Two days later Telkom responded.
“Telkom facilities are maintained by a facilities management company. We apologise for the poor state of this facility. We have requested that the management company cleans this site as soon as possible. While we maintain ownership of these sites, we encourage communities to feel free to report Telkom sites requiring cleaning at 080 234 5678 to ensure they are attended to quickly and efficiently. The number is also available at all Telkom sites,” Sinah Phochana, Telkom’s Executive PR said.
Pannall said it is not the municipality’s responsibility to clean the area continually and it is unfair to expect residents to keep it in a neat and trim state.
“The service Telkom provides also should include looking after its own backyard,” she said.
