Washing your car at Coronation Dam? Why not. Even though renovations are under way, Coronation Park remains open to the public, who clearly still enjoys it.

As you enter the park, the animal farm is on your right. You see sheep and cattle that are tended to by the municipality and often graze on the park’s grass.
The old playground, that used to be fenced off is now entirely open.
The relocation of the nearly 300 white illegal squatters from the old caravan park to Munsieville left an open space after being clear by bulldozers. The enormity of the Park is now more visible.
Nothing but the ablution blocks remain.
But not for long.
According to Nkosana Zali, Mogale City Municipality’s spokesperson, the R22 million upgrade to the park will include resurfacing the roads and painting the palisade fencing, the latter of which already has been completed.
The budget covers reconstructing the entrance point, a playground, animal farm, picnic sites, fountains and improved landscaping.
He said the project will continue until 2018 when the residents of Krugersdorp can expect to enjoy the new and improved park.
Ndoda Mongwe from Munsiville is anticipating the completion of the renovations. He and his family are regular visitors and like to read a book or wash the car while watching others flying a kite.
“We come here very often. The children play and sometimes we even see other people swimming in the dam.”
Today, residents still come to the park to read, enjoy picnic snacks, ride bikes, slide down hills on cardboard and wash their cars… It seems no lack of park infrastructure will stop Krugersdorpers from visiting this local recreational site.
