The frustrated resident claimed the problem started in February when her daughter noticed something floating in her bath water.

“What is this in the water mom?” Tracey remembered her daughter asking.

She contacted Mogale City Local Municipality and Rand Water, and they visited her premises about two months ago to take water samples to be tested.

“They took a whole cooler box full of water samples from my house.”

She felt frustrated, however, that they refused to take along the water samples containing the black residue she had kept aside for them.

She was told she could expect feedback on the test results within two weeks time.

“I never heard from them again, not a word.”

Tracey enquired about the results, but without any success. She said a Mogale City worker promised to make an appointment with her to discuss the outcome of the tests. “They refused to give me the results.”

Tracey decided to have the water tested herself. She received feedback within 48 hours. According to the report the black substance was an organic grease lubricant, which is highly flammable.

“I just had to know what the black substance in the water is,” said the furious resident.

She finally got a message from the Mogale City worker that reads, “Chemically there is nothing wrong with the water. We really dug deep to try and find the problem. Neither us nor Rand Water could find anything at the point of supply.”

The resident claimed the municipality at first blamed her borehole for the black particles in the water.

“I just want Mogale City to assist me in fixing this problem. For a few months now I have been struggling with little assistance from the municipality with regard to the black particles in my water. I would like to locate the source of the problem to sort it out,” concluded the desperate resident.

The News approached Nkosana Zali, spokesperson for the Mogale City Local Municipality for comment, however, none has been forthcoming.
