An elderly woman, 72, was robbed in her house in De Wet Street in Krugersdorp North on Tuesday afternoon 28 July.
The complainant allegedly was alone at home when two male suspects pressed the intercom button at the gate and asked to see a person who is known to her.
The complainant then opened the gate for them.
“One of the men requested to use her bathroom, which she allowed. While she was waiting for him to finish, she heard drawers opening inside the house. When she went to investigate, the second suspect entered the house. The men threatened to kill her if she screamed for help. Jewellery and other valuables were taken,” said Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, Krugersdorp Police spokesperson.
At about 9pm that night Krugersdorp detectives received information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects. They were able to arrest one suspect at his home and recovered the vehicle that was used in the commission of the crime. One suspect is still at large.
The arrested suspect has appeared in court briefly.
Brigadier Baijnath, Krugersdorp Police Station commander, urged the residents to be very careful when allowing strangers into their homes.
“Rather be safe than sorry.”
