Meet the town’s serenaders – the Mogale Chior

No, we also didn't know they exist. That is because they have only been around for little over a year.

How about loosening up your vocal chords over lunch?

The Mogale City Local Municipality Choir loosens up their vocal chords every lunch hour before an event.

“We are looking forward to the Inter-municipal Games’ opening ceremony where we will be one of the key entertainers,” Thanyani Marageni, choir coordinator and founder, said.

“Most of the time, you are so focused on work that you forget about having fun. Starting the choir meant having some fun at work again.”

This after-work-during-work activity helps build better teamwork and relationships between co-workers. Zama Sigabi, the choir master, works in the finance department where life can get a bit stressful.

“This is an effective stress-reliever. It is even better when you can relieve stress at work.”

The Mogale Choir, founded little over a year ago, performed at the 2014 and 2015 State of the City Address as well as for the provincial legislature.

“Sometimes we and the West Rand District Municipality form a mass choir for certain events,” Thanyani said.

“We wanted to add a bit of culture at work. And we love it.”
