One dead as soil collapses

One person is dead and another seriously injured after a wall of soil collapsed at a local mine.

One person has died and one is seriously injured after a wall of soil collapsed on them at the West Rand Mine.

On Tuesday, 11 August, Krugersdorp police received a complaint at a the mine in Krugersdorp where the body of a 20-year-old victim was found.

It is alleged that four friends were digging a hole at the site looking to steel metal.

While they continued digging, a wall of soil suddenly collapsed.

One of the four friends sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for further medical treatment and one was declared dead on the scene.

“The police are investigating a case of inquest,” Krugersdorp’s police spokesperson, Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, said.
