Maragon’s own Wimbledon
Ambitious tennis stars enjoy a Wimbleton experience at Maragon.
Maragon Avianto Private School brought Wimbledon to their tennis courts over the school holidays.
Mickey and Darren Styles Tennis Coaching Academy hosted the first-ever holiday tennis tournament from 25 to 27 June.
The tournament also involved pupils from neighbouring schools in the West Rand area, which made for a dynamic and competitive environment for upcoming stars.
Pupils from the foundation phase (Grade 1 to 3) and intersen phase (Grade 4 to 7) were involved.
“The tournament was a resounding success. Players not only developed their skills and knowledge of the game but also made new friends and grew their love and passion for tennis,” said Liza Vince, tennis co-coordinator at Maragon.
Skills were tested competitively in the round-robin tournament, which entertained spectators with some magnificent tennis and a new hope for the future of the sport. A coaching clinic was available for those still honing in on their skills. Spot prizes were awarded every day, which made for a fun and exciting experience for the players.
“The Maragon tennis courts echoed with excitement and tennis galore. We are looking forward to making this kind of event fixed on the calendar. So if any tennis fans can’t make it to Wimbledon next year, make sure to pay Maragon a visit. We may not be able to guarantee strawberries and cream, but we certainly can provide some fantastic tennis.
