[VIDEO] Eight vehicles in pile-up accident on R28
This morning, on his birthday, a driver was among eight other vehicles damaged in a pile-up accident on the R28 towards Pretoria.
Traffic was heavily delayed this morning, 19 August as Mogale City’s Traffic Department officers tried to divert motorists around eight vehicles scattered across the road after a pile-up accident.
Miraculously, no fatal injuries were reported.
At around 7.20am a minibus taxi sped down the R28 past Silverstar towards Pretoria, hitting a bakkie on its front left side. The bakkie spun out, hitting a light motor vehicle in front of it while the minibus taxi continued to speed down the road, hitting five more vehicles.
According to police who were on the scene, the taxi driver, who was among the 14 injured, said his brakes failed, which caused his vehicle to sped out of control.
The taxi was en route from Kagiso, taking passengers to Lanseria.

A mother of five of the injured was on the scene, trying to find out where her children were taken to.
Most of the drivers whose cars were in the pile-up sustained minor to no injuries.
One driver had her daughter in the back seat as another car hit her side, breaking the window. According to her mother, she has Type-1 Diabetes and was rushed to hospital after her blood pressure sky-rocketed.
Another driver told the News that he saw the accident happen in his rear-view mirror.
“I tried to move out of the way, but there was no where for me to go. I just held on, hoping the impact would not be so bad.”
Still in shock, and late for work, the drivers waited for their insurance companies while Netcare 911 ambulances and tow-trucks cleared the scene at about 9.30am.
