Police on a mission to eradicate illicit trade
Approximately 1kg of dagga and other illegal goods were confiscated during the police, and other stakeholders' Operation Fiela.
The Krugersdorp Cluster police conducted a special crime prevention task in the Krugersdorp and Randfontein area as part of Operation Fiela.
“When addressing the parade on the morning of the operation, the Cluster Commander Major General Anna Mateisi told the 100 police officials, traffic officers and Home Affairs official that Krugersdorp and Randfontein will be swept clean,” police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst said.
Three groups were deployed and special attention was given to second hand dealers, scrapyards, spaza shops and unlicensed hawkers.
The successes of these operations included arrests made for crimes such as dealing in illicit cigarettes, contravention of the liquor act, dealing in dagga, possession of drugs, undocumented foreign nationals and dealing in counterfeited goods such as DVD’s.
A total of 44 arrests were made and a number items were confiscated.
“The teamwork in the Krugersdorp Cluster is the largest contributing factor to our successes in this operation. Minutes after the members were deployed, the first arrests were already made. All of the officials on duty are applauded for their effort in making it a successful operation,” Major General Mateisi concluded.
