Oscar once again the talk of the town
Krugersdorp speaks out about Oscar's release on Friday, while some remember Reeva since it would have been her birthday today.
As Oscar’s release from prison approaches, Reeva Steenkamp would have celebrated her 32nd birthday today.
The News set out to hear what Krugersdorpers have to say about his release from jail after serving only 10 months in prison.
Oscar Pistorius, charged and convicted of the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013, will be released under correctional supervision this Friday, 21 August.
According to Eyewitness News, he will be under correctional supervision at his uncle’s mansion in Waterkloof. He will be under strict supervision and monitored by a police officer. He will only be allowed to leave the mansion to go to church, also under supervision.
Meanwhile, Steenkamp’s parents feel that 10 months for taking a life is simply not enough.
Back in Krugersdorp, mixed opinions are still given with the topic still heavily debated.
“I have nothing to say about that man. I feel nothing for him,” one shopper outside the News’ office said.
Another shopper at the Anthos Shopping Centre/ Monument Checkers withheld her opinion, saying a family member’s circumstances of her death were the same as Reeva’s. Another man felt that Oscar deserves to be imprisoned for life, because he knew he killed her.
“What are we to do in a country where our children are exposed to murderers who were put away for a mere 10 months?” Magda Wagenaar asked.
