Magalies dries up – residents furious

Businesses nearly had to close their doors since there is no water in Magaliesburg.

The usual weekend getaway hot spot was left high and dry after water complications nearly shut down the town.

Business owners of Magaliesburg contacted the News earlier today, 24 August, after their water had been cut off since Friday night.

According to furious business owners the water supply was cut around 6.45pm and they are still without water.

After many attempts to contact the local municipality, the business owners learned that a broken fitting of one of the pipe’s had to be custom made and installed by a specialist.

The fitting did however arrive in Maglies this morning as promised by the representatives in town and municipal workers are currently working on the pipe.

The News has confirmation that it is a fitting on the main water supply pipe to Magaliesburg and the Ga Mogale township that caused the drought.

Rina Rousouw from the Magalies Hotel told the News they had to gather water from farms outside of town to keep the hotel going.

Residents and guests did not have drinking water, water to freshen up nor any water to flush toilets.

Complaints about the communication between the municipality and the town have been forwarded to the News, since nothing was communicated to them regarding the problem.

Water flow should be restored by end of business today.
