Burglar arrested within minutes of crime

A call by a stay-at-home resident sent block watch members on the trail of a perpetrator.

A resident stood vulnerably in her house and watched a burglar break into her property earlier this afternoon.

A male suspect gained entry into a woman’s property in West Village this afternoon and attempted to steal the pool pump and fled by foot.

The woman, who was at home at the time of the incident, quickly contacted the police and the West Village Block Watch to report the crime happening right in front of her eyes.

Within minutes patrollers arrived at her house and gathered information that resulted in a man hunt for the suspect.

Approximately three blocks down the road the perpetrator was caught and apprehended by the vigilant members of the block watch.

The police were called and the suspect was handed over and arrested for house breaking and theft.

“We are extremely grateful for the members of the block watch who helped locate the perpetrator and the police who reacted quickly to the call out,” Gary Bardenhorst, chairperson for the West Village Block Watch, said.
