Backyard murderer gets 15 years
A successful conviction after a 75-year-old man's body was discovered in his backyard in 2014.
The Krugersdorp Cluster Police boasts with yet another successful murder conviction.
Toshua Stently Botha, 31, was sentenced last month on charges of murder and one count of theft for crimes committed last year.
The conviction follows police’s discovery of the body of a 75-year-old male in his backyard in Krugersdorp North.

“Police received a call from a friend of the deceased who was worried as he has not heard from him in days. The police arrived at the given address where they met up with the complainant,” Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, Krugersdorp Police spokesperson explained.
Members of the police gained entry to the house of the deceased, but he was nowhere to be found.
They continued to search outside the yard where the body of an elderly man covered with blankets was discovered.
The body was covered with marks of multiple injuries, which were linked to his death.
Botha later was arrested and detained at Krugersdorp Police Station where a case of murder was opened.
The case was heard in the Palm Ridge High Court where he was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment and one year for theft.

The Krugersdorp Police Management congratulates Lieutenant Jones Baloyi on the investigation and the subsequent sentence. His dedication to his work is something to be admired. The National Prosecuting Authoring also is applauded for their efforts in the fight against crime,” Mashale concluded.
