Business robbers sentenced
Five armed robbers were sentenced for robbing a supermarket in 2014.
Five male suspects were prosecuted and charged for an armed robbery incident at the Shoprite Usave supermarket.
The group was arrested on 2 December 2014 in Munsieville for the offense. They entered the supermarket where they pointed firearms at the customers and cashiers.
Money and cell phones were demanded by the suspects who later robbed all the till points of its cash.
The suspects fled the scene by hijacking a customer’s vehicle.
Shortly after the incident, the police received information that the suspects fled into the informal settlement in Munsieville where they were successfully cornered and arrested.
“The Krugersdorp SAPS Management congratulates Lieutenant Jones Baloyi from Krugersdorp’s Detectives Unit, he worked very hard and put in many hours investigating and gathering enough evidence and taking witnesses statements for a successful conviction,” Krugersdorp spokesperson Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale said.
The hijacked vehicle, an undisclosed amount of cash and four firearms were recovered as evidence.
The case was heard in Kagiso Magistrates’ Court by the presiding Magistrate Mukhari and prosecutor, Mr Maswanganyi on behalf of the state.
Namely Orderly Ncube (28), Peter Tshbalala (44), Godknows Ncube (24) and Trymore Moyo (26) were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, while their accomplice, Tobias Ncube (27) was sentence to 10 years direct imprisonment for armed business robbery.
“Krugersdorp Cluster Commander Major General Mateisi appreciates the good work done by the member to secure a good conviction for his case. He worked with passion and he is dedicated to his work. His dedication is something to be admired by many. The National Prosecuting Authoring is also applauded for their efforts in the fight against crime,” Mashale concluded.
