Kagiso police have arrested a 40-year-old suspect following a rape complaint made by his stepdaughter.
The suspect was arrested in Kagiso on 9 September after a charge of rape was filed against him earlier that day.
“It is alleged the suspect arrived home late at night while his stepdaughter home alone and asleep. The suspect was allegedly intoxicated and ignored the stepdaughter who asked him for food. He later called his stepdaughter to his bedroom to fetch food but she refused. A few minutes later her mother also intoxicated arrived home and went straight to bed,” Kagiso spokesperson Warrant Officer, Solomon Sibiya, said.
After some time the suspect allegedly started touching his stepdaughter who was asleep in another room on a couch.
When she tried to flee, the suspect grabbed her and closed her mouth with his hand while eventually raping her.
The child allegedly reported the matter to her mother the following morning who allegedly refused to listen or believe her. She then told family members about the incident.
“The matter was then reported to the police who immediately went on to arrest the suspect. He has been detained at the Kagiso Police station and is facing charges of raping a minor. He is due to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.”
