Suspected robber wounded in scuffle
Loud gunshots put CPF members on the suspected house robber's tracks.
A son walked in on a house robber minutes after the suspect allegedly had assaulted and robbed his father in his home in Wentworth Park.
Sector 4 Community Policing Forum members rushed to a house in John Hoatson Street after multiple gunshots had been heard the suburb at around 11pm.
Meanwhile other patrollers found a wounded man laying on the pavement in front of a house in Reserve Street.
Richard, Evette and Michelle Starke, Gerrit Jonker, Wynand Horn and Martin Koch were some of the CPF medical responders who stabilised the wounded man before paramedics arrived on the scene and took over from them.
After returning to the first scene the patrollers learned that the wounded man was being linked to a housebreaking at the John Hoatson Street property earlier that night.
It is believed the suspect had broken into the house and attacked and assaulted the older man.
The older man’s son who lives next door became suspicious when he saw the lights in his father’s house being on at that hour and went through the gate linking the two properties to investigate.
As the son approached the front door the suspect jumped on top of him, resulting in a scuffle between the two.
A gunshot went off, wounding the suspect in the chest. He was shot a second time before making a run for it by scaling the property’s boundary wall.
Thompsons security, EPR and Krugersdorp Police were called for assistance while the CPF secured the scene.
It is not clear how the suspect ended up in Reserve Street and whether he was operating alone or as part of a group.
Netcare911 paramedics later took the father and son to a nearby hospital for a medical checkup while the suspect was transferred to Leratong Hospital to be treated for the two gunshot wounds he had sustained.
