Municipal bills skyrocket

Municipal accounts almost doubled in some households. Why?

Has the amount on your municipal bill almost doubled?

You are not alone. Many Krugersdorpers took to Facebook to let their cries be heard about their extremely and unusually high municipal accounts.

Amanda de Lange, the Freedom Front Plus’ West Rand regional leader responded to these cries and told taxpayers these accounts may be incorrect.

“Some of you may have received incorrect bills, notices of demand and warnings that services would be terminated. This is due to Mogale City [Local Municipality] financial management system migrating to a new system. In some cases bills paid were added on the old system but not on the new system,” she explained on Facebook.

Basically, two different systems are supposed to have the same data entered onto it, but some data found on one system, can not be found on another.

“The municipality does not know for sure which system is the correct one,” De Lange added.

Mogale City is in the process of changing from the BIQ system to the new LIMMS system .

“Mogale City used the BIQ system without paying the owner of BIQ and they are in a court battle about the matter. But in the meantime Mogale City is changing to a new system,” she said.

At the recent municipal financial meeting, De Lange requested that no municipal services be suspended without the municipality investigating it properly.
