Shoplifting cop let off the hook

Alleged corrupt cop's shoplifting case withdrawn.

One of the two corrupt cops who were caught shoplifting in August was let off the hook as the case against her was withdrawn.

The two Krugersdorp officers, one a constable and the other a warrant officer, were arrested after they were caught red-handed, shoplifting in uniform at the Vodacom shop in Cradlestone Mall on 19 August.

Eyebrows were raised as the two cops reportedly quickly called higher-rank officers within the Krugersdorp Cluster for backup minutes after they had been caught.

At the time the News was informed that the officers not only tried to bribe a staff member, they allegedly also intimidated the staff. However, this was short-lived as Muldersdrift Police members stepped in and apprehended the two.

Both cops appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court for a second time on 25 September when the case of the warrant officer was withdrawn.

However, the constable was caught shoplifting a second time, three weeks after the first incident. Her case, however was postponed until 2 October.

Following her first arrest, other reports of misbehaviour by the constable have been leaked to the News. This includes allegedly making a false arrest.

The warrant officer is awaiting an internal disciplinary hearing.
